David Markevitch

David Markevitch

David Markevitch founded Markevitch Law, P.C. to represent plaintiffs in the cases that require the most technical fluency: serious injuries with complicated medical proof, and employment claims against sophisticated corporate employers.

He came to law from science. David earned his B.S. from the College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and worked as a research chemist in pharmaceutical development before practicing, with published research and named inventorship on multiple patents. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, a credential that requires a qualifying scientific or technical degree in addition to the patent bar examination.

He has carried that discipline into litigation, including medical device and pharmaceutical injury cases where reading the underlying records and science directly — rather than relying entirely on a retained expert to interpret them — changes what a case can prove.

David served as co-trial counsel in Estate of Lopez v. The Hillshire Brands Company, a mesothelioma wrongful death case that produced a $12,958,461 verdict in Alameda County Superior Court, ranked fifth among all California wrongful death verdicts of 2017 by TopVerdict.com. The judgment was affirmed in full on appeal in a published opinion, Lopez v. The Hillshire Brands Co. (2019) 41 Cal.App.5th 679, which settled how asbestos causation must be proved against premises owners and employers in California. (Obtained at Kaiser Gornick LLP prior to founding Markevitch Law, P.C.)

David speaks English and Russian and represents Russian-speaking clients in both practice areas.

In employment matters, David represents employees against many of the largest technology companies in the country, in claims for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower protection, and unpaid wages. He learns the substance of his clients' work — the engineering, the science, the systems, the vocabulary of the specific role — closely enough to test a defense witness's account of why a decision was made.
